Philosophy Themed Classes
The Throat Lock or Jalandhara Bandha is one of three interior "locks" used in asana and pranayama. These locks control, empower and harness the flow of energy. Jalandhara isn’t usually performed by itself. It acts as a seal for the upper end of the spinal column and prevents Prana from moving up. We'll warm up the neck to prepare for the physical creation of the lock and integrate a breath practice to close.
Today's practice builds awareness around the navel center to prepare for Uddiyana Bandha (or the abdominal lock.) This energetic lock helps to tone the abdominals, massages the internal organs, creates digestive fire, aids in detoxification and stimulates blood flow to the brain.
In todays class we'll learn how to engage our root lock and apply it throughout practice. Enjoy! *This class was not designed specifically for prenatal practitioners, but it safe as long as you modify according to your body. If twisting doesn't feel good for you, please don't. If you feel very off balance, use blocks or a wall when/if we take balancing postures. If you get dizzy a lot, refrain from holding your arms over your head for too long... things like that :) Please watch our "Prenatal Dont's Explained" video before taking any of our prenatal classes. And make sure you are cleared by your practitioner to practice yoga before participating. And lastly, ENJOY :)
Muladhara (Root) Chakra
We begin our journey through the Chakras at the Root. The Muladhara Chakra is our home of stability, safety and security. When it is open and aligned, we feel balanced and grounded. This first chakra is connected to our survival needs or the foundation on which we stand. It's located at the base of the spine and can impact our elimination processes. Today's class will aim to get you rooted in your foundation.
Svadhisthana (Sacral) Chakra
(#2 in the Chakra Series) One of the major body parts associated with the Sacral Chakra is the hips, so we'll be doing a long hip-opening flow that builds up to a few long holds in both half pigeon and frog pose. You'll want support, so grab your blocks, and some pillows, a couch cushion, bolster, or anything else that will help support you comfortably in a long frog hold ;) And for all the juicy details about the sacral chakra, don't skip the intro!
Manipura (Solar Plexus) Chakra
The Manipura (Solar Plexus) Chakra is the home of our power and self worth. Located above the navel center, this energetic center when balanced allows us to take action, exercise our will with discernment, make decisions with clarity, and experience ourselves as energized and confident. The organs it can impact are the stomach, intestines, liver and spleen. Today's practice will center our awareness at the core.
Anahata (Heart) Chakra
(#4 in the Chakra Series ) Today's class is themed around the fourth Chakra, the Heart Chakra. We'll move through a heart-opening flow, building up to our peak posture, which is a funky camel pose. Grab your blocks and a strap, and don't skip the intro for all the juicy details about the heart chakra :)
Vishuddha (Throat) Chakra
The Vishuddha Chakra, or the throat chakra is our home of self expression. When open and balanced, we communicate well - meaning we speak our truth and listen generously. When blocked or overactive you might experience problems living your truth or have issues with your thyroid. Today's practice will aim to open the throat center.
Ajna (Third Eye) Chakra
The Ajna Chakra is located directly behind our third eye. It's best accessed through gaze, balancing postures, and meditation, so today we'll do both. I encourage you to practice with your eyes closed as much as possible :) Grab any support you want for meditation!
